Last week, my husband brought home yet another box of See’s Candies, definitely adding insult to injury. I tried to ignore it but it was nuts and chews, which is my favorite. The holidays are, for most, a month or two of excess. I love the Self magazine pre-holiday articles that tell you to only eat from the veggie tray at parties and keep the alcohol to one drink. Yeah, right! So if you’re like me, you might have a few holiday pounds to shed and we have just the motivation for you.
One of our favorite slogans at Rubbingnickels.com, is “giving back without giving cash“. We’ve talked before about the ways that you can help out your community by giving of your time and unwanted items, to make someone else’s life better. This month, we’re focusing on a fundraiser created by one of our favorite TV shows, NBC’s The Biggest Loser. It is called the Pound for Pound Challenge.
The Pound for Pound Challenge is the easiest and cheapest fundraiser you’ll ever participate in. All you have to do is log onto their website, type in a little information and let them know what your weight loss goal is. You can put in up to 50 pounds and NBC will donate money to Feeding America for each pound that you pledge. No one will ever check up on you, but you will know what you promised. Do it with a friend and it will help to keep you accountable for those midnight snacks.
The charity that the Pound for Pound Challenge supports is called Feeding America (formerly America’s Second Harvest – The Nation’s Food Bank Network). It is the nation’s leading domestic charitable hunger-relief organization. It provides low-income individuals and families with the fuel to survive and even thrive. Feeding America’s network of more than 200 member food banks supports approximately 63,000 local charitable agencies operating more than 70,000 programs, including food pantries, soup kitchens, emergency shelters, after-school programs, Kids Cafes, BackPack programs and senior centers.
Each year, the Feeding America network provides assistance to more than 25 million low-income people facing hunger in the United States, including more than 9 million children and nearly 3 million seniors. Feeding America will use the funds donated by The Pound For Pound Challenge to deliver groceries to its network of local food banks. Please help them support our nation’s foodbanks by log onto the Pound for Pound Challenge and pledging a few pounds. If you don’t have any to pledge, well, congratulations! But I have a feeling that after the holidays, most of us could pledge a few unwanted pounds.
I pledged five, what can you pledge?
