I have to admit that I am a House Beautiful magazine junkie. I love the glossy magazine with its elegant pictures of exorbitantly expensive furniture and fabrics. Even though I’ve been in the “no fly zone” when it comes to furniture purchases that don’t come from Craigs List or IKEA, I still love to get [...]

I LOVE new bedding. It brightens my day when I make my bed and it looks fresh and comfy. My favorite bedding sources have always been Ralph Lauren, Laura Ashley (OK, in the 90s) and Garnet Hill. But you can spend a mint on a new comforter, bed skirt and shams if you’re not careful. [...]

Now that Spring Cleaning has rolled around, I REALLY miss my housecleaner. The level of cleanliness in my house leaves much to be desired and would be a challenge for any Mom: three soccer-playing boys (turf, grass and mud) and a super-shedding Shepherd (dirt, hair and torn-up stuffed animals).
The principal at one of our schools, Erica Gilbert, wrote a wonderful letter to her parents this week about making your children your Valentine. We are pleased to pass along her wisdom and caring to our readers. Here is her letter:

In the month of February, retailers ensure that we are reminded it is Valentine’s Day. I encourage you to save your money and start family traditions that make your child(ren) your valentine. Most parents would not deny that their child(ren) is the “love of their life”! I know my boys are mine. Here are some “top 5 ideas” for making your child(ren) your valentine this year:

Say, "I love you" to children of all ages! It is
an important thing to hear and say to those you care
about.

Schedule one-on-one time with your
child(ren). How special s/he will feel when you make a
date with them. Even if its just to run some errands.
Take that alone time and make it special time!
